If you are on Mac, Logic seems a good option only because of the price. Cubase is the most expensive of the 3 DAWs and also one of the most detailed softwares. › watch › v=0c5tFRqefc0. Both Cubase and Logic Pro are cutting-edge DAWs that provide an incredible amount of efficient power. Both can stand up to nearly any task, with.

Pro Tools vs. So I now have some time to sit down and compare some of the most popular Daws out there and see if I will be switching from Logic 9 to either Cubase 7.

The purpose of this mission is not to analyze every single little detail of each program but just some of the basic every day functions that will ultimately make my work as fast and efficient as possible. Also it's marking all the trigger points incorrectly. I posted a video here showing the problem. Hopefully someone can help. At about 6;30 you can see the problem. Detected all transients immediately without making any adjustments.

Only reason I scored it lower is because it lacks the visual cue and adjustability of cubase. Also cubase adjust quickly with a slider vs. Still not as good and fast as Logic X but I like the control and perhaps with more practice this will change. I was using drum tracks with very poor rhythm to begin with as to really see how well these DAWS can handle them. Manual editing still required Miscellaneous Cubase - Instant Waveform creation when importing tracks.

Macros are incredibly powerful. Pro Tools - Avid has been removed from Nasdaq and looks like it's going to be out of business in a couple of years. Not sure it's even worth investing a penny into anything avid at this point. Logic X - Slow at creating waveform overview when importing tracks. Some graphics bugs, had to reopen project. Can vertically zoom into track full screen! Still no way to export select tracks as audio files?

It's either 1 or all. Not a huge fan of the graphics. But we'll see after I customize the look a bit. Also has crashed several times while other Daws have not crashed once. And Avid looks it's going out of business soon. Logic X - In the Lead right now with Cubase right behind. The main bug I found was a graphics bug when beatmapping but after a very fast closing and reopening the project I was back to work and it worked very smooth afterwards.

And quantizing drums ends up with too much manual work to do. And while your at it could you analyze the new version of World of Warcraft. My Studio. Why look for the same terms in every program? In Cubase it's called Zoom to Selection. In Cubase, it is actually called "Zoom Full. This is your opinion correct? Instant Waveform creation when importing tracks" Wrong again buddy With your total failure on the zooming and the others, the rest of your comparison seems pretty sad. How can we trust anything you say?

But you are aloud to say it so go ahead and do the next one in all CAPS! Maybe a little more research is needed on your part before you claim something "can't be done? In Cubase you can do a lot of things with the macros and the project logical editor, you can map several functions under one key command. So something that would need 2 or 3 keystrokes can be mapped to one key. For me Cubase is great, the only thing it lacks is true bounce in place and macro controls for the 'quick controls'.

Otherwise it's a very good DAW. No biggie, sorry for the harsh-ish tone. On the zooming tip I find the "graphics" rating to be backwards Pro Tools? Looks like a turd compared to Logic and Cubase.

No visual design. Just my opinion of course. It was very slow about 10x slower than Logic at every step of the way from analyzing, to separating, conforming etc… And then the conforming process was completely broken. I was conforming to 16th notes and every clip got moved so out of time it was completely worthless.

I hope this was user error of some kind but I suspect this is just a buggy piece of junk. You just have to know how to use it.

It's not nearly as 'automatic' as other DAWs. That's what I hear but it just seemed completely broken when I tried it. Do you have any idea why conforming clips are throwing them completely out of time like several beats and even measures away getting worse as the song goes on? FYI there are many tempo changes as I used identify beat to map tempo changes throughout the song as it was recorded without a click.

You can use Beat Detective for tempo mapping a performance that was done without a click. Sounds like you just need to learn how to use Beat Detective. It's a very powerful tool. The worse the performance, the smaller the chunks you should do at once. Like just the first half of the verse, not the entire song. Are you using collection mode? Are you 'capturing the selection' before analyzing?

EDIT: Transient detection took 3 minutes? For me it's instant, zero time. Maybe we're talking about different things?

Zoom to fit Pro Tools is only horizontal - option-f I think, not in front of my computer. You can also hit 'E' to zoom vertically to the selected track. Cubase like a lot of things you can roll your own to suit your preference. Like will it fit all contents, or maybe just all selected contents.

EDIT: I would learn how to use beat detective for tempo mapping but FIRST I need to figure out wether or not beat detective is broken or not when it comes to conforming quantizing clips. I was not using collection mode. Should I be? I am using enhanced, not sure if that is correct but it seems like it is placing the transient markers at all the right spots.

I am capturing selection before analyzing. Everything seems fine up until I try to conform quantize the clips. I have read from other users on Pro Tools 11 that analyzing the transients is 10x slower than it was on pro tools Are you on PT 11 or 10? Pro Tools transient detection took 3 minutes? Have you ever heard of TAB to Transients? PT has always been ultra fast at moving from transient to transient in the edit window.

From my vantage point This is definitely not.. Might be a great way to learn about all these programs though. Using 16th notes, especially make sure that beat '1' is actually being marked as beat '1'. Sometimes works with simple parts that are played well.

Can you check Beat Detective in PT10 or just 11? I somehow managed to manually reidentify the trigger points and give protools all the correct information and then after I conformed it, it was just very glitchy and requires so much manual editing. I am sure with lots of tweaking I can get it better.
